Replacing the Y Sustain board on a 50inch plasma tv Movie.wmv Tube. Duration : 3.55 Mins.
A word of warning: A television has high voltage and can kill you if you touch the wrong part. My two and a half year old 50 inch plasma is broken already. The Y main or sustain board needs to be replaced. The tv has no active cooling and I'm not surprised it overheated with the tremendous heat generated. Out of warranty repair will cost several hundred dollars. It's a shame they can make such poor quality products. All they needed was a few strategically placed fans to cool the tv. Don't attempt the repair if you are not qualified to do so. The residual electricity from the capacitors, even when the plug is disconnected, can kill you or give you a nasty shock. This video is best viewed on a PC showing the annotations which serve to clarify the locations of different boards and the connections.

The TCP65S2 VIERA® S2 Series Plasma HDTVs feature 1080 lines of moving picture resolution. VIERA Link allows interconnected operation of various AV devices using only the VIERA remote control, by simply connecting compatible devices to each other by an HDMI cable.
Building on its award-winning 2009 Plasma line, Panasonic's 65-inch VIERA TC-P65S2 Plasma HDTV features a new panel with NeoPDP technologies that provide the best balance of black and white under brighter environments while also offering higher energy efficiency. The new NeoPDP Plasma panel also further reduces reflections and creates sharper pictures with higher contrast in brighter environments. This S2 series model provides 1080p resolution, full-time 1080 TV lines of moving picture resolution, and 600Hz Sub-field Drive for superb motion clarity.

Key Features
NeoPDP: By redesigning the Plasma panel's cell structure and developing an innovative new filter, Panasonic has tripled the luminous efficiency (compared to 2007 models) of its VIERA Plasma HDTVS--resulting in stunningly beautiful images while also reducing power consumption.
1080 Moving Picture Resolution: With 1080 lines of moving picture resolution and integrated NeoPDP technology's high-speed drive performance, the display time for each image frame is shortened to minimize afterimages, making decisive calls in football matches and delicate motions in figure skating performances appear crystal clear.
600Hz Sub-field Drive: 600Hz technology lets you view superb full-HD motion and still images with 1080 lines of resolution. For even greater clarity with motion images, Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology, which converts the motion in each scene into data. And each frame is practically displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous systems, to reduce aftereffects (see an illustration of 600Hz technology).
VIERA Image Viewer: View full-HD images with the integrated SD card slot, enabling you to view JPEG photos captured from your digital camera or camcorder on the big screen. Navigate your images via an easy-to-use thumbnail display.
VIERA Link: Allows the interlinked operation of various AV devices--from DVD and Blu-ray Disc players to home theater sound systems to digital cameras and camcorders--using only the VIERA remote control by simply connecting the devices to each other by an HDMI cable (see pop-up illustration).
Game Mode: With Game Mode, quicker image response increases the enjoyment of video games when a game console is connected to the TV. What's more, VIERA produces the dark images in video games more clearly. This mode works with the anti-image retention (wobbling) function, too.

Panasonic S2 series Plasma HDTV, removable stand, remote control (with batteries), operating instructions
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.
If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.
Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

PlasmaTvs ready now offer larger screen size than Lcds. The screen sizes of PlasmaTvs that are commonly ready in the shop include, 30 inch, 42 inch, 50 inch and 63 inch models, while the Lcd Tvs are tiny to smaller screen sizes, which range from 10 inch to 40 inch models. Presently larger screen sizes of more than 60 inches are being made ready in the market. One favourable point is that, the Lcd technology is more flexible, which allows wide variety of screen sizes to be developed.
Advantages on PlasmaTvs:
- PlasmaTvs are ready in larger display screen sizes.
- Plasma has best black levels, and also the distinction ratio.
- PlasmaTvs can be viewed from any angle, as long as the viewing angle is between 160 to 180 degrees. - PlasmaTvs have top refreshing rate which captures every information in a fast operation scene.
- Plasma screen can display billions of colors, producing level gradations of shades, improving the photo ability to a great extent, production the images life-like and realistic, responding sharply to fast spicy images.
Disadvantages of PlasmaTvs:
- PlasmaTvs do not accomplish as well at higher altitudes.
- PlasmaTvs are more susceptible to burn-in of static images.
- PlasmaTvs are thicker than Lcd Tvs and hence much heavier.
- PlasmaTvs produce glare in brightly lit rooms though some advancement in technology has been made to correct this.
Overview of Lcd Tvs: Lcd Tvs have Liquid Crystal Displays, a technology which is seen being used in computer monitors, cell phones, and at times are found in camera screens. Lcd screen was first created for computer monitors, and now with the application of the technology in Lcd Tvs, they seem to be a bit best when you are playing games on your Tv. However, the selection entirely depends on the user, since some like the vivid colors in PlasmaTv, which comes from its deep black levels.
Lcd panels work with liquid crystal clarification being sandwiched between two polarized glasses. When an electrical voltage is applied to the liquid crystal, the crystals rotate, and this changes the polarization of the light passing through them. A Lcd panel does not create light by itself. It just filters or subtracts its back light source to create an image on the screen.
Advantages of Lcd Tvs:
- Lcd Tvs have best longevity than the Plasma. The midpoint life-span has been foreseen, as more than 30 years.
- The display of Lcd Tvs uses lower power compared to PlasmaTvs, but has more consumption than Led. - The screen sizes of Lcd Tvs are ready in assorted sizes starting from computer monitor screens to over 60 inches.
Disadvantages of Lcd Tvs:
- The Tv has a very poor distinction level and responds slower to fast spicy images, creating a blur.
- The prices of Lcd Tvs are higher than the Plasma, and because of the demand and increased production the prices are slowly falling.
Overview of Led Tvs: The term 'Led' stands for Light Emitting Diode. It is an electronic component which emits light when a determined voltage inherent is applied to its terminals. Though the Tv using this technology is call Led Tv, but the Led light source is used as the Tv's backlight, while the Tv screen is for real Lcd. Though some current Tv models use Ccfl (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps), Led form of backlighting remains a far more sufficient Tv backlight system.
The Advantages of Led Tvs are as follows:
- With Leds as the backlighting source, the Tvs have a far best dynamic distinction level than Lcd Tvs, since it uses a direct backlighting technology.
- Led Tvs are ultra thin as much as about an inch in thickness.
- The power consumption of Led Tvs are less than the Lcd Tvs currently available.
- Out of the flat screen Tvs ready in the shop today, Led Tvs are considered to be most reliable.
The disadvantage is that Led Tvs are higher priced than Lcd Tvs, but prices are foreseen, to come down with increased production.
The above is an attempt to provide a basic understanding about the differences between the three technologies ready presently in flat-screen Tvs which would help a buyer to determine which Tv to buy.
